loss of tones

2014-03-11 by Joel Conison

I am having a weird & baffling problem. I'm running mac 10.8.5, K7 inks, 7800 printer . I just had my printer serviced by Epson. All is well with the printer as we ran 2 nozzle checks. One was the standard test with the lines that shows any breaks in the lines & the other one that shows the tones in solid blocks of tone between white spaces (the one that comes out after a power clean, much larger than the small jagged lined nozzle test). All heads are clear as shown in both tests. But, my prints lack a deep solid black, a lack of sharpness, and overall lack of contrast.

I printed 2 files that have been printed many times. I thought maybe the files are corrupted (never heard of that, although I have had a corrupted color profile), so I went to my backup dvd & chose the same file to print. The exact same result. Also let me mention the edges around the print are not sharp edges, it looks like a little bleed outside of where the edge should be, very uneven bleeding .In order to they to isolate the problem I opened the raw file & worked the same process I always do, which is make a selection of the bird & move it to a separate file so I can add a background. Below are captures of set up.

The print looks fine, solid black, good contrast, good sharpness, but still has a little bleed on some parts of edges, not all. I'm totally baffled. I'm 5 weeks behind in delivering some prints, so if anyone has suggestion, I would appreciate it.
Thank you
Joel
