I too am printing directly onto KM73, but have been printing after exposing the plate to an aquatint screen. I've been extremely pleased with my results but would like to eliminate the screen. Any particular reason you are using matte black. The plates don't really require that kind of blocking power. Alan, If you are printing direct to the plate, then the dither patter will act as an aquatint screen. You should get no open bite.
