Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Can't do anything with QTR 2.7.2

I think I posted this here a few months back when I was having similar problems with my Epson R3000 installation on Mavericks. Substitute your 3880 printer names where appropriate:

First problem is a permissions problem. Open Terminal window and navigate to /Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/EpsonXXX directory

Then type sudo InstallRXXXX.command

It will either install or you will get an error like this:
Installing QuadToneRIP Curves Printer QuadR3000
Couldn't open /etc/cups/ppd/QuadR3000.ppd for reading: No such file or directory

This means that for whatever reason, the silly .ppd file is gone. You need to put it there.

Open a Finder window using Go->Go to Folder... and tell it to go to /etc/cups/ppd

in the terminal window type ls -al

You should not see the QuadR3000.ppd file in here. Leave this terminal window open on your desktop.

There is something hosed up with the Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks permissions that will not allow the ppd files to expand properly. You will have to outsmart Apple and all its nanny-state rules.

So now open up a separate Finder window and type in Go->Go to Folder.. and then type in /Library/Printers/QTR

Open up the ppd folder and double click on the appropriate .ppd.gz file. In my case QuadR3000.ppd.gz and it will probably decompress into your Downloads folder.

Now navigate to your Downloads folder and drag the decompressed QuadR3000.ppd folder to the /etc/cups/ppd folder. The system will ask you for your password.

_Now_ you can install the printer properly. Go back to where you began, and open up a terminal window and navigate to your install script, e.g. cd /Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/EpsonXXX
