Many soft proof (In PS: View>Proof Setup>Custom [insert ICC in "Device to Simulate"]) their images on the monitor by using an ICC. The QTR download has some canned ICCs (Lab L simulation only) and Create ICC-RGB can make a custom one that also includes the color information.
I use another technique. I like to keep my files in the rather universal Gray Gamma 2.2, so I edit in that space. Then for QTR I apply a curve that adjusts the values. I believe my curve can be found at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Roark-QTR-ACV.zip . Or in most of my Profile zip files.
