Re: Print Tool and icc profiles

2016-01-13 by richard@...

Sandy,

Sorry for such a long delay in response. I've been a little busy for the last few weeks with family around the holidays and then catch up work. I just haven't been keeping up on forums very much...

About the book:
In short, the last 6 months have been hectic and the book got pushed to the back burner. I've been plugging away at it, but I haven't been able to focus on it like it needed. The bones and all the Mac stuff is basically done, but I am translating it to the Windows QTRgui now and figuring out how to work around the Windows 10 issues (which seem to be minor).

I decided to go ahead and add a whole section on profiling digital negatives based on a method I am using with the Cone inks (but not the piezo digital neg curves). I'm incorporating partitioned toner curves along with the main partitioned gray curve as a way of adding blocking density when needed without needing to change the overall gray curve. I've modified the correction curve tool i created to linearize to the process without needing to use the linearization function, but it does requite using a densitometer, i1 Pro (or the QTR scanner to L*a*b* workflow).

Work is going to settle down at the end of the month and I will be able to finish it off. My fiancé is a medical editor, and is wrapping up some work this week that will allow her to start editing what I have, and I will start to revise and start laying it out mid February and finishing the design and all the extra bonus material in March.

I've set myself a firm deadline of April 12 as a release date, and am putting together a page for people to sign up to get notified when it is available (and pre-order at a discount).I'll make some more noise about that when I post it.

All the best,
Richard Boutwell
