#Installing a QTR Printer on Mac OS X
Keith, I just reread the instructions that came with installing a new QTR printer. It isn’t unreasonable to find it confusing.

Paula, here is my procedure for installing a new printer.

First you need install the QTR software package. The downloaded zip opens from a standard DMG. If you just try to double click to open the installer it will say that it isn’t from an unidentified developer. You will need to right click (control+click) and then click “open”. Running the installation package will load all the “drivers” for currently supported printers, and will load all necessary files and folders in the correct locations. Now you can move on to installing the printer/print queue.

##To install a new QuadPrinter

- Go to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners
- Make sure the printer is powered on and connected. (You can use either USB or a networked printer, but USB seems to be more consistent and reliable. I occasionally have problems with the networked printer not accepting print data or resetting after beginning the print job)
- Click the + button to add a new printer.
- Choose the printer model from the list of connected printers and then click the “Use” drop down and click the “Select Software…” option. All the QTR drivers should be visible in that list, and you should be able to scroll down to select “QuadToneRIP 2.7.7 Epson P600” from the list.
- If you do not see that option you will need to make sure the installation was successful by going to library/printers/qtr. If that folder is there, but you don’t see the P-600 as an option make sure you downloaded the latest version from the QTR website.

##Installing the Pre-made Curves
After you create a the printer, you will need to install the pre-made curves.
- Go to Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/P600-UC and double click the InstallP600.command script. That will create .quad files (curves) for all the Ink Descriptor Files (profiles) in that folder. It will also update/install any .quad files located in the currentOS/Library/Printers/QTR/QuadTone/QuadP600 folder (while you are there, drag that QuadP600 folder to the side bar in your Finder window, or make an alias to it and put in on your desktop).

You should be good to go from there.

Hope that helps,
Richard Boutwell
