Re: [QuadtoneRIP] RIP for Canons...

Hi, there are other RIPs, a quick Google search found 3.

Shiraz Software
Poster Jet
Serendipity.

But the problem may be the price, Poster Jet is around 500 Euro. Expensive for a home printer. Others do not have a clear price on their web pages.

Your best option is to get a print calibration unit, such as Datacolor Color Vision Spyderprint or X-Rite Colour Munki.

These devices generate a printer profile used in Photoshop for printing and balance the colour mixes to generate pure greys.

Alternatively, for each paper you use you can get a commercial profile made.

The advantage with your own calibrator is that there is minimal cost (a few sheets of paper) if you change printer or paper in the future.

Good hunting for your solution,

Subject: [QuadtoneRIP] RIP for Canons...

Hi all. I used an Epson 1400 for many years, and with MIS inks and QTR, I had great results. But the print head went down the hill, and as Epsons with gray inks are very expensive where I live (and I was fed up with the clogs...) I decided to go Canon and have it for color and BW. Got a PRO 100, which has black and two grays. For some strange reason, even when printing in bw mode it uses colors, with the predictable color cast.

So this printer is calling for a RIP that can use only the black and gray inks, right? I know QTR is designed for Epsons only, so the questions are: Would it be to difficult to extend it to drive Canons? (Roy?). Any other apps that can do it? Can't seem to find one....

Happy printing!
