As for what is needed to be updated, the only thing you need to do differently is print through PrintTool (worth 5x the price) to have absolute control over the color management settings. You might need to edit the folder/file permissions in the /library/printers/qtr/quadtone folder if you encounter a problem installing the Quadprinter/curves. I sometimes run into that problem when setting people up with new printers.
IF you do plan on making custom curves from scratch you will need to print the ink calibration images (sometimes called ink separation images) through print tool without color management using the QTR calibration mode in the driver settings. (you might want play around with the premade curves until I release my new QuickCurve system though)
I've done a lot of writing on my site about QTR stuff, and plan on making all the stuff I wrote for the book I was planning on releasing for QTR free on my site as i get it edited and formatted over the winter time. All the writing and research I did for the QTR book has been made obsolete as I developed my own improved curve creation systems. I will post a link to stuff as I get it uploaded over the next few months.
I am doing a YouTube live screencast next weekend working with my new QTR system, but it will go into installing and printing with QuadTone RIP that might be helpful for you to watch too.
