Well I only have a 2200 but if the 4880 has a screen, maybe there is an about option somewhere. I would Google it. That is a real bummer. I have a cis and I love it.

For what it is worth, I print over a wifi network. The printer problems occur without any involvement of the network - - - that is, they depend only on how the printer itself, in isolation, is functioning.
It *does* sound like someone updated the firmware, but I read about the dangers of doing this a couple years ago and so purposely avoid it. I don't recall upgrading firmware on *any* Epson I've ever owned, although I think there have been upgrades available
for networking.
Because I get stuck at the "REPLACE INK CRTG" message, I can't even check which version of the firmware I have (assuming it is somewhere in the menus).
