Jose Rodriguez on youtube has tons of videos on the Pro 1000 and especially refilling carts. He tends to prefer Precision Color Signature Edition inks along with some OEM inks, but he speaks well of Ink Owl.

I have a friend who is considering
the Canon Pro-1000 printer, purely for colour printing. Ink
cost is a concern, so refilling from bulk is desirable.
InkOwl offers American-made pigment inks that apparently
can be used to refill the original cartridges. (It's not
clear to me how the chips are supposed to be
handled.)
I only use
Epson printers, so I'm not sure how to advise
her.
