Incidentally, I should add that when I was having this problem with 1440dpi prints it was not a problem with just with qtr. I tried black only printing with the Epson driver and that also showed terrible banding even though I could make very nice BO prints when the printer was new. My nozzle checks are fine and the head alignment is as good as I can get it with the tests you can run so I really don't know what the problem is.
