R800 Curves and Linearization

2006-01-13 by smack0606

Hi everybody,

I have built some curves for the EEM yesterday (based on the curves
supplied by Roy) and noticed that the original R800 curves do not use
Photoblack. However in the printed Testchart photoblack is clearly
lighter that Matte black so that I just tried to use photblack as a
Lightblack. The results seem to be quite good. With the new
linearized curve (including photoblack) I do not have anymore banding
problems and the print is smooth and not as dotty as when using the
original curve. I seem to get much smoother transitions than before.
Tonewise I had to add a little more Magenta to neutralize a greenish
tone which Photoblack seems to have.

However the last tests have done resulted in a slightly contrasty and
light (otherwise good) print. Can I change the shadows / highlights
or Gamma for the black ink after having linearized or will I have to
linearize all over again after having changed shadows and highlight?

If anyone is interested I could upload my cold and warm curve.

Regards,

Ignacio
