R800 Curves and Linearization

R800 Curves and Linearization

2006-01-13 by smack0606

Hi everybody,

I have built some curves for the EEM yesterday (based on the curves
supplied by Roy) and noticed that the original R800 curves do not use
Photoblack. However in the printed Testchart photoblack is clearly
lighter that Matte black so that I just tried to use photblack as a
Lightblack. The results seem to be quite good. With the new
linearized curve (including photoblack) I do not have anymore banding
problems and the print is smooth and not as dotty as when using the
original curve. I seem to get much smoother transitions than before.
Tonewise I had to add a little more Magenta to neutralize a greenish
tone which Photoblack seems to have.

However the last tests have done resulted in a slightly contrasty and
light (otherwise good) print. Can I change the shadows / highlights
or Gamma for the black ink after having linearized or will I have to
linearize all over again after having changed shadows and highlight?

If anyone is interested I could upload my cold and warm curve.

Regards,

Ignacio

Hi Ignacio

I am french, please excuse me for my quite poor english.

I just try QTR whith an R800.
My results are quite good, but I wish to test your profile
Mine is as follow:
Starting with the UC-EEnhMatte-cool and keeping the linearization
curve of it,I change the values in the Curve Creator like that:
-Defaut ink limit 75
-Gray ink density 100
-Blue ink density 10 Limit 10
-Photo Black density 30 Limit 30

Regards

Jean-Claude

Hello Jean-Claude,

sorry for answering so late, but Iid not really expect anybody to
react to my message :-) I will try to upload the profile for the R800
in the groups file section and let you know.

Regards,
Ignacio
