newbie question

2006-02-07 by Paulo Baptista

Hello,
I'm a brazilian photographer and my personal work is mainly large format
landscapes. I've recently joined this list, and yesterday I began to try to
setup QTR for printing on an Epson 7600 with UC inks (I work on a G4
running OS 10.3.9). Although I've read Roy Harrington's Basic Tutorial, Tom
Moore's User Guide and Carl Schofield's mini tutorial, along with many
useful messages on this list, I'm still quite unsure as to how set the
whole thing up. I've downloaded and installed QTR 2.3.5, and plan to start
printing on Epson Premium Luster paper.
I have assumed from some of Roy Harrington's replies to the list that the
steps necessary for determining ink limits, partitioning the grayscale
range and linearizing the grayscale output, prior to generating the paper's
curves, could be carried on the software's graphic interface, instead of
editing quad descriptor files on a text editor, but I just couldn't find
out how to do that (I believe one can do that on the Windows version of
QTR) . I searched the list's files for more recent information, but
couldn't find any. Is there a tutorial written for the most recent versions
of QTR (for Macs)? Or should I follow Carl Schofield's instructions and
work directly on the .qidf files?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Paulo
