Geez I just wrote Roy about this regarding PrintFIX PRO LAB text files.

Same thing happened to me, L was fine but a and b were zeros.

Here's what Roy told me and it worked. Just make sure the file has headers for each 
column. If your L column has written L* it will not work. Change it to L.

Hope this formats in the browser - the spacing might be a little off:
