Re: Piezography Neutral K7 for EPSON 2400

2006-10-13 by Tyler Boley

All pigment inks can settle out if motionless long enough. Right in
the Epson manual it says to shake the carts before installing, are
they "blended"? There have been occasional user reports of settling
pigments from nearly all brands of pigment inks, blended or not, color
or monochrome, with a sufficiently inactive printer. I have not yet
seen one report from a K7/6 user, but they haven't been out in the
world as long as most other pigment sets on the market.
This is a simple maintainence issue, not an ink choice issue. It comes
with the large format/pigment ink territory, and is hardly a problem.
We know to keep our printers minimally active, and if for some reason
we can't and have an ink settle, it's an easy fix. Shake the carts,
move the settled ink out of the affected line.
I have been using the standard piezotone sets in a 9600 for 3 years
and have never experienced this "problem". I do some physical mixing
of the sets, and some blending between those in the RIP for carefully
tweaked hues. I've never had it shift. Also, it's rarely reported, and
if so by someone unaware of the potential problem who let their
printer sit for a month or more.
I think this is a non-issue, but if I'm wrong it must be unique to
certain inks.
Tyler
