You mean - why not remove the cartridges to check the ink level?

 

The whole point of using auto-reset chips was to avoid removing the
cartridges from the printer. Otherwise, you may as well use regular (and
cheaper) cartridge chips and a resetter. That way you'd have an idea of how
much in was left before removing the cartridges.
