I did try running it with the Epson 10000 driver also, and from the 10600 driver. The printer accepts either, so I doubt it has been "blessed" as a 10600 printer from then on. I can print color fine via USB or network. Roy got back to me and said he was not sure of all the idiosyncrasies the 10000/10600 may have. BTW, I now call my printer a 10000.5 :) Scratching head on this one.
