Sorry to jump in here late but in my experience with a 4000 and 4800 (both Pro models) w/Ethernet cards, I found I got the fastest spooling and printing using Ethernet directly from my Mac G5 AND I was also able to print from my PC through a wireless Ethernet router I used for internet service from my PC (a laptop with a wireless card in another room). I was not able to update the firmware until I dragged the printer close enough to connect with a USB cable.
