Anytime something seems amiss, first assume that you have a clogged nozzle and do a cleaning cycle if you have an interrupted pattern appear on the test pattern. My hunch would be that one of your black cartridges is clogged. You can run cartridges to nothing and often be OK, especially the small cartridges like on the 2200. I know of folks who have thrown them away after they start blinking, thus wasting ink unnecessarily. It is the larger cartridges, like on the 4000 and up series numbers, which sometimes cannot print an uninterrupted test patterns after they get low, despite repeated cleaning cycles.
