Brand spankin' newbie... on a Mac

2007-07-16 by corvette_bare

Hey there,

I switched from a PC to a Mac in April of this year. I'm slowly
getting up to speed on many of the features in OSX, one of which is
printing. Under Windoze I used Image Print v6 to print to my Epson
2200. Now, I'm going to get an HP Z3100 for color and turn my 2200
into a B&W only printer using neutral K7 inks and QTR.

My questions about this process are these:

Is there a GUI for the MAC? I'm still not very fast at command line
stuff. Is there an absolute beginners guide for dummies like me that
can explain in (understandable) detail as to how to setup and
configure QTR so I can get quality prints from my gear? I have a 15"
Mac Book Pro that I bought as loaded as I can, so it can serve as a
desktop while in my office, and also work well on location. I have a
23" Apple Cinema Display that is managed with ColorEyes Display Pro
using a DTP94. I tried to start with the best I could afford so I can
be reasonably sure my gear is not holding back quality.

Now the hardest part is how to set up workflows to use this stuff to
good advantage. I ported my Image Print to my Mac but the more I read
about QTR, the more hooked I became on the concepts of how it
operates. All I need now is some help getting started. I have read the
PDF's and gained what understanding I can. I'm looking for some
reiteration or restatement of these things that can help bring it all
home for me. I'm one of those that learns better by repetitively doing
something than from just reading about it. There's probably a name for
this condition, but my son calls it "O.L.D." disease. Ah teenagers...
