as to your question pertaining to the Epson 2200; when printing B&W
out of the box using Photoshop CS3
There is no problem with CS3

I had the same experience with a light color cast appearing in the image.

This was a problem with the 2200 and one of the reasons it was
replaced by the 240o. It is not possible (at least in my experience 

The solution to your problem is purchasing the QTR rip software and
profiles as well as a set of B&W inks. I suggest the Piezography K7
but there are others.

I have recently done the same although I am now attepmting to learn
the QTR software
