Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: About QTR and "carbon" printing

2007-11-12 by Frank Jay

I don't understand the LK and LLK ink information. I bought the 3 MIS inks for the R1800 and thought that the inks were of different shades of black or gray, hence going into 3 slots...MK, PK and the Glop. When I ordered some empty carts and 4oz of ink to refil them, I was told that one ink re-filled all three carts. Did I miss something someplace or is the LK and LLK used for a warmer town and what I bought was for just plain black and white. If it is for plain black and white, then why is the same ink used in three slots.

I really can't say how my prints come out becasue since I bought the inks over two weeks ago, they haven't worked, so MIS sent me three chips, which I have to install. I am very anxious to see how they work. I do know I get a very nice black and white using the epson inks and the QTR, better than using the Epson driver.
I have a lot of holes in my knowledge of this, but they have been getting filled little by little, not quick enough for my liking, but some of this information seems to be discovered thru discourses here. Which I am thankful for.
  thanks
  Frank

          Juan,

MIS Eboni black is fairly neutral all by itself. But the lighter
black dilutions are decidedly warm, so if you use LK and/or LLK inks,
your prints will take on a warm tone. If you want to counteract that
warmth using the Epson K3 inkset (or the MIS equivalent) you would be
adding some LC and LM, but you don't need to add yellow, since the
carbon only inks already have too much warmth. Adding yellow would
just make it warmer, which doesn't seem to be what you want.

If you print with Black Only (the single black ink position) your
prints will be fairly neutral, but you will see dots in the
highlights and midtones, because you are using ONLY the black ink,
and to get light tones, you need more space between black dots to
simulate a light tone. If you like that look, you have a quick easy
solution to neutral B&W. If you don't, you will want to add LK and
LLK for highlights and midtones, and you will need to introduce some
LC and LM to cool down the light black inks to neutral.
