Re: About QTR and "carbon" printing

2007-11-12 by Louis Dina

Frank,

I was responding to Juan's inquiry, not yours, and your situation is
really quite different. If you are using Paul Roark's 3MK method
with the 1800, that is totally different from Juan's situation, where
he is using the Epson K3 inkset on a 2400. Different print and
different inks.

I don't have an 1800 and haven't used the 3MK method, but I think I
understand Paul's basic premise. Since the 1800 lays down a very
small dot (1.5PL, vs the 3.5 or 4 PL dot on the many other Epson
printers) using the MK inks in three different positions can give
smooth tones without the larger dots. From what I have read, Paul
uses three positions of MK inks for smoothness and he ramps the inks
in at different rates. And yes, the MK (or more accurately, the MIS
Eboni Black) is quite neutral. Paul is using the same exact Eboni
Black in all three cartridges, and having three cartridges firing
instead of one helps improve smoothness and avoids banding.

Hope that helps.

Lou

MIS inks for the R1800 and thought that the inks were of different
shades of black or gray, hence going into 3 slots...MK, PK and the
Glop. When I ordered some empty carts and 4oz of ink to refil them, I
was told that one ink re-filled all three carts. Did I miss something
someplace or is the LK and LLK used for a warmer town and what I
bought was for just plain black and white. If it is for plain black
and white, then why is the same ink used in three slots.

bought the inks over two weeks ago, they haven't worked, so MIS sent
me three chips, which I have to install. I am very anxious to see how
they work. I do know I get a very nice black and white using the
epson inks and the QTR, better than using the Epson driver.

but some of this information seems to be discovered thru discourses
here. Which I am thankful for.
