QTR-Quadtone RIP

Hi,
I'm printing some fliers for an exhibition and wondered what the relationship is between dpi and ink use.

I tried printing some at 720dpi and after a gamma adjustment was surprised at how good the quality is. Would that save me some ink for these prints where quality is not crucial?
