asking for help with curver creation

2008-02-20 by David

I've been using Matte Black ink to print images onto transparency film
(at 1440x1400 resolution), that I then use in a UV exposure unit to
make etching plates. The problem is, the MK ink is not permanent on
the film and under the pressure of the vacuum exposure unit, the ink
is smooshing against the plate, adding rings and marks to the image
where the ink is deforming.

One suggestion is to use magenta ink or a combination of M and Y inks
instead of MK.

The first question is, would the M or M/Y inks adhere to the
transparency film where the MK ink isn't?

Would these (M or M/Y) offer the same or better opacity as the MK?
You'd think that black ink would be the most opaque (and block out UV
light) but I've been hearing that this might not hold true with these
inks.

The second question is, what curve would I create for the M/Y combo,
so that each dot is a combination of the two inks (sort of a red I
guess), and not a series of individual M and Y dots. Here is the curve
I'm using now with the MK ink:

     General settings:
        Default Ink Limit: 70
        Black Boost: 100
     Black (K)
        Density: 100,
        Limit (blank)
No other inks used. No other settings applied.

Any suggestions would be helpful
