QTR-Quadtone RIP

I am using an Epson R2400 and I plan on doing some tests, but was 
hoping for some general info. about the differences in these 
resolutions. 

I'm printing onto transparency film, using only one color ink, so the 
image is similar to a bitmap images, made up of dots of one color, 
spaced differently depending on the tone. I'm using these to create 
etching plates so I do want the grain. 

I was printing at 720 DPI but that caused banding, so I went to the 
higher DPI.
