question about 1440 resolutions

question about 1440 resolutions

2008-03-04 by David

I've been creating transparencies with a dot/grain pattern in them.
I've been using the "1440x1440 super" transparency setting, but I was
wonder how this is different than the other two 1440 resolutions
("1440" and I can't remember the name of the other one). Would these
change the size of the droplets, or . . . ?

Any info or details would be helpful.

Thanks, David.

David,
The answers to your questions depend on the printer you are using.

It seems that the easiest way to answer the question is to print something that makes
comparing the ink patterns as easy as possible, perhaps some solid color squares or even a
photo of a MacBeth chart or something similar.

I am using an Epson R2400 and I plan on doing some tests, but was
hoping for some general info. about the differences in these
resolutions.

I'm printing onto transparency film, using only one color ink, so the
image is similar to a bitmap images, made up of dots of one color,
spaced differently depending on the tone. I'm using these to create
etching plates so I do want the grain.

I was printing at 720 DPI but that caused banding, so I went to the
higher DPI.

I just read in the QTR documentation:

"1440 also has a 'super' version that does a more elaborate weaving
if the printer is capable of that."

So, can someone tell me what 'weaving' means? And how it might effect
the dot/grain pattern I'm trying to get, as described below? And is
the Epson R2400 "capable of that"?

Thanks, David.
