Since the 800/1800 uses a unique inkset the LM and LC are replaced by Red and Blue (the purplish one is the Blue cartridge). The 800/1800 inkset does not print b&w very well as it is primarily a glossy color printer/inkset. You might want to explore here for an alternate inkset that replaces the Gloss Optimizer and the glossy black with two more matte black inks for a unique inkset that prints color and good b&w on matte papers only. http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R1800.htm You could also convert the 800 to a dedicated b&w machine but more realistically you'd be better off keeping the 800 for color and picking up any one of several very cheap 8.5x11 machines that could be set up for a dedicated b&w.
