R800 color incorrect?

R800 color incorrect?

2008-10-13 by jag24x

Hi all,

I just download QTR 2.6.1.0 and I have a Epson R800. I went through
the Calibration mode to print out the 8 inks. Though I'm confused as
to why it didnt print out "Ink 5 Light Cyan" to actual Light Cyan? It
came out a RED? "Ink 6 Light Magenta" turned out to be purple? The
rest of the color are fine.
Am I doing something wrong here?
I select Printing Model to QuadR800. Resolution 1440dpi. SPeed Bi-
directional. Matte Paper. Havent touched anything else.
Any help?
Thanks

Nope. The calibration mode is printing each ink as it comes out of the cartridge. Since
the 800/1800 uses a unique inkset the LM and LC are replaced by Red and Blue (the
purplish one is the Blue cartridge). The 800/1800 inkset does not print b&w very well as
it is primarily a glossy color printer/inkset. You might want to explore here for an
alternate inkset that replaces the Gloss Optimizer and the glossy black with two more
matte black inks for a unique inkset that prints color and good b&w on matte papers only.

You could also convert the 800 to a dedicated b&w machine but more realistically you'd
be better off keeping the 800 for color and picking up any one of several very cheap
8.5x11 machines that could be set up for a dedicated b&w.
