You can leave out the 4th shade to make a K6 set. The sample prints we produce have very little black if any in them as we go for a sample image which has maximum linearization of tone from 0-255. So since 0 is dMax (black) we try and show off the separation in the curves we produce with detail in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and so forth all the way to dMin or paper white at 255. Photographers appreciate our highlights but seem to miss huge blacks. We like the shadows open as much as possible because its not possible with conventional silver paper. Hence there are very few true black pixels in the image. We should have probably included a gray scale and a black patch. regards, Jon Cone --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "john dean" <deanwork2003@y...> wrote: > Jon said when I asked this question that yes, you just can leave out > one of the dark grey channels.
