No, you don't need to make profiles that is why I am confused about your taking text files and dropping them into Create ICC.

To start from the beginning. I assume you have a 4000 with Ultrachrome inks. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected by USB not Firewire. Go to Applications>QuadToneRIP>Profiles>4000UC. When you are in that folder double click on the Install4000.command. That will install a printer named Quad4000.

Choose an image in PhotoShop. Follow the usual print commands starting with Print. At the first Print page make sure Quad4000 is chosen in Printer, then choose Photoshop manages colors, for Printer Profile choose QTR_Gray_Matte_Paper (if indeed you are using matte). Select Perceptual for Rendering Intent and check Black Point Compensation, then hit Print. On the next page make sure Quad 4000 is again chosen under Printer, then go to the box that will have defaulted to Layout, choose Quadtone RIP, make sure you are in Mode:Quadtone RIP. You should then be able to choose the curves listed under Curves 1, Curves 2, and Curve 3. If you choose more than one curve the blending sliders to the left will activate. Good Luck!
