As others have said look at the Matte Black or Photo Black (both print out on the R800 / R1800) for the paper you are testing and pick a value where the next value to the right looks the same. I'm finding on over a dozen papers where I've print the Ink Seperation page that Matte papers are in the 35-55 range while the Luster/Glossy go from 50 to 70. Then put that value in the Ink Calibration box and print again and follow Tom Moore's User's Guide. I always use the black only for the first step and ignore the others. That one is the most critical as its load determines Dmax on one hand but it is also the one most likely to be overloaded. Most likley you'll find that the black saturates already at a lower level then the other inks. Using a higher ink load based on the other inks would overload the black > > Good luck. > > Joost > > --- In QuadtoneRIP@ yahoogroups. com, Bruce Campbell <brucerccampbell@ ...> wrote: > > > > Joost > > > > Ok. I printed the Ink Separation Test Page as instructed in his guide and then Iooked at the various lines - black, light black and the 5 color lines to determine the patch where the paper is covered with all the inks. My question is -- Do I just look at the black and light black lines OR do I also look at the 5 color lines? I think the answer is ---look at just the black and light black lines to pick a % value for the next step. > > > > Hope this is clear. > > > > Thanks for your help. > > > > Bruce > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >
