QTR-Quadtone RIP

I see on this thread that some people propose using a 7900 with a rip (Studioprint or QTR) to partition multiple ink sets. As far as I'm aware, Epson removed the ability to control the individual ink channels, and tp turn them off or on individually. Is this not so?
