QTR-Quadtone RIP

hi dave, 

I was in your boat about a month ago so i know that it can be frustrating at times, but once you start to figure it out it will make more sense. I am definitely still new at this, as i have only created one set of curves for canson baryta (one at 1440 and one at 2880), but i will try and help you out.  

1. Untagged means that photoshop will not apply a profile to the document. When you open this document photoshop will ask what you want to do and you should leave as is(don't color manage)

2. I use 8.5x11 paper in landscape view and i will leave the size as is. 

*I hope that someone will comment on this because i don't know how much of a  difference, if at all it would make if you resize the document. I know they are 360dpi which is supposed to be the ideal setting for epson printers so i just left them as is. 

3. your gonna want to use the same paper for the targets that you are creating a curve for. I usually use separate sheets but i guess you could print more than one on the same sheet.

*I bought a box of 8.5x11 paper and all the targets, test prints and notes will remain inside that box. That way it's always handy to go back to and reference.   

4. I am using a datacolor spectro as well and it will work. You may want to read Building qtr profiles with macs_v4 (you'll find it in the files/docs on the qtr group page). It's geared towards building curves using hextone grayscale inks and reading the ink separation 8 target, but he uses a datacolor spectro and i found his settings in the software to work. 

*I used this set of instructions, and Mr. Diallo's paper to come up with a working method.  


p.s. i started with level 3 in Diallo's paper which is creating a custom curve and it made a difference, but then i set the ink limits and crossovers, which is the last level (level 4 in his paper) i saw a big enough difference that i started over since this must precede curve building.
