QTR-Quadtone RIP

I'm using MIS carbon black inks in my R1800. How do I print a test print to check all 8 positions. I thought it had to do with the PhotoShop file and printing in calibration mode or, am I totally mistaken. So far I've gotten nothing but gibberish (technical term). I should mention that I print from either Lightroom 3 or CS5. OS is latest Snow Leopard (10.6.7) on iMac.
