Sean,

I've used it a lot so I went back and looked at the sequence.
When you are on the page that says "Mode: Patch" you pull that down to
select "Strip without gaps".  The second pull down that said Manual goes away.
The Start button also goes gray because you use the button on the device
to start the scan.   Place the device on the white spot under "Beg" on
the paper.
Push the button and wait for a low beep sound (about a second) then drag
the device steadily across the patches to the white at other end. Stop and
then let up button on device.  If you hear 3 beeps thats an error you can try
again. Otherwise, "Close" and "Save As" on next dialog.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
