If one wanted to warm up their Eboni/Carbon prints by using fewer inks, which dilutions would be the best choice? I'm experimenting with Eboni6 and Epson Hot Press Natural and it's amazing how neutral these pigments look. For some reason they look much warmer after varnishing, but I think I am giving up on that technique as I value my lungs and brain. Also, what are the warmest matt papers currently available? Thanks!

Hi, Hahnemühle PhotoRag is warmer than HPN, but you might try the Hahnemühle Bamboo paper to get brown tones. However this paper is kind of ivory, so it is not suitable for every subject. I can send you my soft-proofing icc profiles (made with Eb5 inkset: same as Eb6 without the most diluted ink) so that you can compare HPN and Bamboo. What kind of varnish do you use for HPN? I use Lumijet and I get no tone change. Have a nice day Sylvain. I assume you mean which papers cause the image to be or appear the warmest. Some of the warmest papers in terms of their paper base are the Epson HP natural and Hahnemuhle bamboo, both of which have relatively neutral carbon pigment images in that the rise in Lab B is limited. While the Epson HPn rise in Lab B is about 1.5 units, many papers will give you a 4 unit rise. H. Photo Rag and Red River Aurora are among them. To get a warmer appearance you can go with a more heavily brightened paper that leads to a greater difference between the paper base (highlights) and warmest tone on the paper. With Red River Polar matte, for example, you can get a Lab B rise of 7 with this approach. Paul www.PaulRoark.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
