Because the Epson 1400 was unavailable, I just purchased an Epson 1430 (a 1400 with WiFi capability) and note that on my Mac, the script Install1400-K6.command fails. The script complains that there is no printer named 1400. If I rename the command to Install1430-k6.command, it also fails, complaining that 1430 is not supported. Is there any way to use a 1430 with QTR on the Mac ?

You can use the 1430 with QTR on the mac but there are a couple of fiddly bits involved. I am using the 1430 in the UK (where it is known as the 1500!) with OSX 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. It's a while since I last set it up so may be a bit hazy. You will need to name the printer something like "QUAD 1400" through the printer thingy in system preferences to use the 1400 install command. I've not tried re-naming the install commands to match the printer name. You also may need to access the QTR folders in the mac Hard Drive library, Printers file, to over-ride the read only settings to make them read and write, this will allow the profiles to load properly for the printer to use them. If you look through my earlier postings you may find where I described the process in more detail. If you are using an earlier mac operating system there may be some jiggery pokery I'm not aware of. Hope this is of some help. Ross --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "kenleegallery" <kenlee333@...> wrote:

Hi If I remember well, you have to use the "print & Fax" preferences, create a 1400-MIS printer (using a 1430 driver in the choice of driver) then, when it's done, use again the "1400-" install script. I think that I reinstalled all QTR but it was a while ago. I was fighting more with the wi-fi thing than QTR. My 1430 works perfectly with an EB-6 configuration; thanks to Paul and Roy. oops, name of the printer I installed : QUAD1400-MIS. Since the script try to find that particular name (I was using the "install1400-MIS.command) it is important to create the printer with the exact name that the script wants. Using the Print and Fax preferences control, I have tried renaming the existing printer to 1400-MIS and also to QUAD1400. I have also tried installing a second printer, called 1400-MIS and also QUAD1400 I have also re-installed QTR several times. In all cases, the script called "Install1400-MIS.command" fails with the following message: "Cannot find an Epson USB printer with the name 1400" --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, Jacques Caron wrote: > > Hi > > If I remember well, you have to use the "print & Fax" preferences, create a 1400-MIS printer (using a 1430 driver in the choice of driver) then, when it's done, use again the "1400-" install script. Well One thing I know is that renaming is not the best way; remove all the created or renamed printers (in any event you could delete the Epson one and re-install it). Then, on the "create a new printer, the name given should be "QUAD1400-MIS" and using the 1430 driver. The, re-installing QTR and running the "Install1400-MIS.command" should work out. Good! I fought a bit to install everything but in the end, it's rewarding! You will be able to experiment with pure B&W prints as I did. Ça m'a fait plaisir! I am trying to make prints with the Eboni 6 inks, and I am confused about the Photoshop settings. Under Color Management, we can select an ICC printer profile - and then under Print Settings we can choose a QTR curve. Do we use both ? For paper, I have some Epson Hot Press Natural and some Premier Fine Art Smooth 270. There is a printer profile called "QTR_1400_Eb6-EpsHP-cc22." There is a QTR curve called "MK-Epson-PA-Scrapbook-BO". (Hot Press Natural was previously called Scrapbook, no ?) Is this a correct approach ? Many thanks ! --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, Jacques Caron <jacques.caron@...> wrote:

Hi I followed Paul & Roy advices. With Photoshop (I'm on a Mac, Photoshop CS3) I select "no colour management" in Photoshop, then, in the printer dialog, choosing Quad-MIS printer, I go to the QuadToneRip selection and in the dialog box, I chose for curve 1 the proper curve for the paper I use (I work with Red River Polar matt and Paul did a good work in making that curve). I hit print and there it goes. For my own setup, I made a curve in Photoshop just to equalize what I see on the screen and what will be printed. Hope this helps Le 2013-04-28 à 16:36, kenleegallery <kenlee333@...> a écrit : > I am trying to make prints with the Eboni 6 inks, and I am confused about the Photoshop settings. So, the PDFs I write assume that and do not deal with Mac workflows.) On PCs, there are two different workflows for printing -- the Epson driver (best with an ICC) and QTR, which is used as a stand-alone printer utility. They use different profiles. I initially mostly posted Photoshop curves and ICCs, with the curves often being embedded in the ICCs using QTR's Create ICC-RGB. I did not initially post many (any?) QTR profiles, as I then assumed most QTR users made their own profiles. I recently posted a number of QTR profiles also (see previous thread). > For paper, I have some Epson Hot Press Natural and some Premier Fine Art > Smooth 270. > I think you'll find profiles for those. > There is a printer profile called "QTR_1400_Eb6-EpsHP-cc22." > I used to make some ICCs that use the Epson driver settings "Color Controls" with gamma set at 2.2. That is what "cc22" stands for. In think this is discussed in http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-6.pdf . Be sure to read that PDF. The newer Photoshop versions and OSs do not allow ICCs to be combined with "Color Controls." So, with the current systems these "cc22" profiles are not usable. > > There is a QTR curve called "MK-Epson-PA-Scrapbook-BO". (Hot Press Natural > was previously called Scrapbook, no ?) > That is for QTR, not the Epson driver. It uses only the black ink (BO = Black Only). In my Zip files that have the profiles in them you'll find profiles that use the full inkset. They will be smoother than one that uses only the black ink. The black ink is more neutral, however. With the 1400/30 you can combine these two types of approaches with QTR using the sliders. Read the PDF noted above. I think it explains this. Hope this helps. When you select "No Color Management", is that when you are printing ? When printing in Photoshop CS6, the window is called "Photoshop Print Settings" and we can choose either "Printer manages colors" or "Photoshop manages colors". Would the first choice be equivalent to "No Color Management" ? --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, Jacques Caron <jacques.caron@...> wrote:

Hi I think that you will have to read more if you use CS6; as I understood from the various threads dealing with this issue, almost all users downloaded the Adobe Printing Utility as CS6 does not offers "No colour Management". That's why I'm using CS5 for my works but I kept my CS3 license to print with it. Up to now I'm very satisfied with my results. In CS3, when I hit "Print" in the dialog box, I can select the printer (QUAD1400-MIS) and the "no colour management. Then I hit "Print " again and in the next box I go to the "QuadToneRip" menu and there, I select my mode, curve and resolution. Hope this help a bit Le 2013-04-29 à 10:23, kenleegallery <kenlee333@...> a écrit : > When you select "No Color Management", is that when you are printing ? > > When printing in Photoshop CS6, the window is called "Photoshop Print Settings" and we can choose either "Printer manages colors" or "Photoshop manages colors".
