Profiling trouble: dmax reached at 85%

I posted this a week ago on DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint, but no response. As it is QTR-specific, perhaps I should have posted here: Although I usually have no problem making profiles for papers like HPR and EEM, I'm having a hard time with Epson "High Quality Inkjet Paper" (formerly photo paper). The measured ink limit on my printer is around 25%. I'm using one of Paul's K4 recipes on a 7600, using the printer with QTR on a Mac. After making a non-linearized profile in the usual way and printing a greyscale, density peaks at around 85%, then falls of slightly towards 100% on the 21-step greyscale: %/density: 100/1.58 95/1.58 90/1.59 85/1.60 80/1.45 Starting from grey shadow=6, I've tried various values between 4 and 12: still hit dmax at 85%. Same with increasing gamma slightly, and drastically (1.2, 1.6, 2.4). I've tried lowering black boost from 60 to 20. That reduced dmax to 1.43, which was still reached at 85%. Lowering ink limit to 15 also reduced dmax but dmax still reached at 85%. Of course it's impossible to linearize with these numbers, one gets the dreaded "values not uniformly increasing" error. I've had the same kind of problem trying to profile Hawk Mountain Kestrel, which also doesn't accept the amount of ink laid down by my EEM profile. Any advice?
