Ink Separation Test for negatives

Ink Separation Test for negatives

2014-02-13 by <luciano@...>

Hi,

Probably a dumb question, but when I print the ink separation test for QTR, should I select also the "Negative - Invert & Flip" check box in Print-Tool? Obviously I am printing the test to make diginegs on Pictorico OHP.

Thanks,
Luciano

Well, tried in Photoshop and I do not want to invert for sure, but what about flipping the image. Usually with contact printing, the ink side of the negative is in contact with the emulsion. If I do not flip the image I will print this test with the ink side against the glass of the frame. Any suggestions?

You don't want to invert -- the ink separation file can't take that. You could flip but this
is only a test print so what difference does it make to be a mirror image?
You should put ink against emulsion in the contact printing.

Once you are doing regular QTR printing, then use the Print-Tool invert for it all.

You want to make digital negatives, right? Flipping the image horizontally will work. In your testing you want to make sure that the base side of the OHP is always facing toward the light. In some cases printing with the base side facing the light source will give slightly different density on the print than with the ink side facing the light source. I don't understand why this is the case, but it is definitely true for me when making carbon prints using negatives printed on Pictorico and exposed with the Amergraph ULF-28 platemaker.

Hi Sandy and Roy,
Thanks for the replies.
I figured I could not invert the test file once I tried it in Photoshop. As far as flipping it, I wanted the lettering and numbers reading correctly once contact printed on my gum test. In any case, I printed the test and I am now waiting for it to dry. Hope to have time tomorrow to contact print the test, see the results and start with the step wedge calibration.
