what do numbers mean in Calibration Mode file?

what do numbers mean in Calibration Mode file?

2014-02-17 by <paulmwhiting@...>

More specifically: at the bottom of the Calibration Mode file bundled with QTR is a 21-step grey scale... below it are two rows of numbers. The first row is pretty clear, simply a percent scale. But what does the second row represent? Density, perhaps? In which case, where would the decimal point be? Would the numbers then read from 1.6 to 0.0?
TIA!

If you are referring to a scale of 0-255 that would be gray levels. In Ps, curves can be set to use/display one or the other.

They are approximate density values for matte paper. (Old history)

Keith, the numbers are 0 through 160.
Roy, thanks... I sort of thought they might be density figures... but don't I need to move the decimal point to the left by two integers, so then they would be .03 through 1.60?

Hi Paul,
Funny thing is with all the step-wedge files I have, I don't seem to have that one. Anyhow, you are correct about the position of the decimal point.

Keith,

It's a file named 21step.tif and I believe it came bundled with other files, utilities, etc.in the QuadtoneRIP folder. At least that's where I found it just now...

And thanks for verifying my decimal point question!

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Oh that's funny. I guess I never noticed that file before. I just found it in the CurveDesign>Images folder. There are several others in the Eye-One folder too. 21step.tif is almost identical to another that I have that must have come from somewhere else but has the 0-255 gray level scale at the bottom.

Cheers,
Keith
