Creating new curve Text File - 2 questions

Creating new curve Text File - 2 questions

2014-08-01 by robert@...

1. When creating a new text file (to print a step wedge), I'm copying one I have that works pretty well; however, it has a Gray Curve that I want to eliminate for my step wedge. So, I simply copied the text file, renamed it, and deleted the link after GRAY_CURVE=. I noticed above on line 3 there is command: GRAPH_CURVE=YES. Do I have to change this if I delete the GRAY_CURVE, or is the GRAPH_CURVE command something different?

2. I'm using an Epson R2880 with PBK ink, and my blackest blacks are not as black as I like when I print the step wedge (Palladium). The ink settings in the Text File are below. QUESTION: is there a simple change I can make to make my blacks darker without substantially changing my mid-tones?

DEFAULT_INK_LIMIT=65

BOOST_K=35

LIMIT_K=22

LIMIT_C=22

LIMIT_M=22

LIMIT_Y=22

LIMIT_LC=35

LIMIT_LM=0

LIMIT_LK=35

LIMIT_LLK=35

N_OF_GRAY_PARTS=2

GRAY_INK_1=K

GRAY_VAL_1=100

GRAY_INK_2=LK

GRAY_VAL_2=40

That GRAPH_CURVE=YESline is for displaying the curve that is generated in terminal when running the install script on a mac.

it looks like this:

# K curve
0 0% |
11 4% |m g
21 8% |m g
32 13% |m g
43 17% |m g
53 21% |m g
64 25% |m g
74 29% |km g
85 33% |ck g
96 38% | m k g
106 42% | m k g
117 46% | m k g
128 50% |Mm k g
138 54% |Mm k g
149 58% |Mm g k
159 62% |Mcm g k
170 67% |Mcm g k
181 71% |Mcm g k
191 75% |Mg k

234 92% | m k K

Is this new profile for printing digital negatives (you mentioned the setpwedge for palladium) or creating positive inkjet prints on paper? The reason I ask is that the ink limits for the color inks are pretty high, and the ink limits for the black/grey inks are pretty low for a positive print on a glossy paper. Changing ink limits will result in shifting the tones across the whole scale, so it would end up messing with the midtones as well.

Also, you have only two grey parts when you have ink limits set for all three grey inks. (K, LK, LLK)

"N_OF_GRAY_PARTS=2

GRAY_INK_1=K

GRAY_VAL_1=100

GRAY_INK_2=LK

GRAY_VAL_2=40
