Can't Find the Curves

Can't Find the Curves

2005-10-10 by Tom Husband

I'm changing some default ink limits and gray overlaps to see what the
changes will be. I start in Curve Creator by opening a .qidf file and
saving as another name. Then I'll make some changes, run Create Curve
and save it but when I try to find the curve in the pull downs before
printing they aren't there. I can see the files in the Profile folder
but they aren't showing in the QuadTone folder. They should be there
right? I see there are other curves that are in the profile folder as
.qidf but not in the QuadTone folder as .quad. How come?

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom -

I had the same problem. I was trying to tweak curves for my 2200
using the UT7 ink set. You'd think that when you created a cuve, QTR
would save it in the Quadtone subfolder that corresponded, no? I
found that instead of saving it in the Quad2200-UT7 folder, it saved
them to the plain Quad2200 folder. I dragged the new curves over to
Quad2200-UT7 and everything was golden. This is probably described in
the docs somewhere, but I didn't know it either when I started.

Did you set your printing model to Quad2200-UT7? If you left it at Quad2200,
then that's where it would put the new QUAD file.

Thanks Stephen but it's set for Quad2200-UT7 so I'm not sure why the .quad files go to the Quad2200 folder. Anyway I found them and know where to look next time.

Are you sure? I tested things out and the file always went into the folder of
the printing model name. You might look at the QIDF file and see what the
printer name item says.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Can't Find the Curves

Strange. The test .qidf file from 2200-ut7 shows:
PRINTER=Quad2200
CURVE_NAME=UT7-EEnhMatte-cool_test
The .qidf file that came with QTR shows:
PRINTER=Quad2100
CURVE_NAME=UT7-EEM-cool
In fact I just checked and all the .qidf files in the 2200-ut7 folder say:
PRINTER=Quad2100
Maybe I downloaded some files and put them in the wrong folder. I downloaded some curves the other day. Maybe they were all 2100 curves. I think I'll just uninstall and re-install QTR.
Thanks Steve.

They should have had an empty Printer Name. Be sure you change the name in the
drop-down after you load the file. Then it will go in the correct folder.

Stephen,

So you mean the QIDF files opened in Notepad shouldn't
have a printer designation at the top? The ones I
have in the 2200-ut7 folder say 2100 with the
exception of the Ilford Smooth Pearl curves which say
2200. These are the curves that downloaded with QTR.

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Can't Find the Curves

2005-10-11 by Stephen Billard

Right. I suspect that Roy forgot to clear out the printer name before he set the
files for distribution. The same source is used for the 2100 and 2200 (they are
really the same printer.) If the name is empty in the QIDF file, then the curve
creator fills it in from the printing model selected. If it is not empty, then
the printing model gets set to the name found.

Once you save a QIDF file from the curve creator, it will have the name filled
in from the printing model.
