Will Mac curves work on a PC?

Will Mac curves work on a PC?

2005-10-10 by elitephotolv

I use a Mac at work and a PC at home and have QTR on both. The Mac has Hahnemuhle
curves on it but the PC version doesn't. Is it possible to use the Mac curves on the PC? I
expect not since thr program works very differently between the two platforms, not to
mention the differing OS's.

Just wondering.

You can use the same curves on both Mac and PC. The .quad files are the same for both platforms, but the curve descriptor files have a special suffix on a PC (.qidf) and are just simple .txt files on a Mac.

I'm a little confused here. So I just find them on my Mac hard disk
and copy them over? Then I find the *.txt files and simply re-name
them as *.qdif then I can use them?

Surely it can't be that simple!

Thanks Carl,

The *.TXT files need to be converted into QUAD files. You do that by loading
them in the curve creator part of QTRgui and pressing the button. You do not
have to rename the files.

Yes, I think it is that simple, but check with another PC user to be
sure. In fact I don't think you even need to use the .txt (.qidf)
files unless you intend to edit or re-linearize. If you just want to
print just put the .quad files where they belong on the PC.
