Can Epson L1800 Printer replace the 1400

Can Epson L1800 Printer replace the 1400

2014-12-18 by bijeshjayarajan@...

Hi Everyone,

There is a new printer which has come out in India/Singapore. An Epson L1800. From the specs...it uses 6 inks. Though there is no mention of Claria...but at the price point my guess is that it is Claria. It has a Tank System built in and can do A3+ borderless.

I have been using an Artisan 50 with EB6/Paul Roark Profiles/QTR Print Tool for Matte. And an Epson 1400 for Glossy with Paul Roark Claria profiles for the occasional BW's on Red River Metallic but mostly color.

But want to move up to A3 size matte carbon prints. Will using the Epson L1800 and naming it Epson 1400 (that is how I got the Artisan to work) work smoothly. Is there some algorithm that will depend on the sequence of the inks slots. The images tell me it is the same sequence...only opposite. Yellow is to the Right Extreme.

Just wanted some advice before I buy. Reason being the Epson Stylus 1400 has been discontinued in India and there aren't any available.

It doesn't matter what sequence the ink position are in the printer. The important thing is that whatever the gray dilution labeled on the bottle is installed in the correct cart/position. For example, the bottle that says "cyan" is in the cyan cartridge in the cyan position in the printer..

The Yellow position might be all the way to the right on the printhead carriage but it will still be fired with the Y-curve in QTR. The same is true with all the other channels. If you load them differently you can still change either the .qdif//txt or .quad files to make the correct shade fire in a different ink channel.

Thanks a Ton Richard!!!! That surely helps. I can fearlessly invest in a newly launched printer rather than one that has been discontinued. Gratitude.

Update: Good news for people based in Asia.
The Epson L1800 which is an Ink Tank printer worked seamlessly with the Paul Roark profiles for EB6 inks.
Since these printers have ink tanks attached....filling the MIS inks was a breeze.
Loved the ease and the fact that one can now do 13X19 inches prints with carbon pigment inks on all sorts of papers. Love the Canson Infinity Aquarelle Water Color paper though and my current favorite...Breathing Color Pura Smooth for smooth prints.
Yippee!!!

Sadly Epson does not market these hextone 1.5 pl printers in the US.

It looks like the tank is easily detached from the printer for agitation.

But at an outrageous price. I'd stick with the 1430 in the US.

Hi Paul,
I used the EB6 profiles for 1400/1430.
Printed an image on Premier Art Smooth Bright White today. The result was great.
Also the Epson 1390 which I guess was the Asian Equivalent of Epson 1400 has been discontinued so the only option here is the L1800 at 500$ India Price.
Thanks for all the profiles you've created.
