Looking for Epson chips for a 3880

Looking for Epson chips for a 3880

2015-01-24 by jeff.grant@...

I want to get a 3880 for piezography but need to get a set of Epson chips to use in the refillable carts. I've hunted high and low but haven't been able to find them unless they are attached to an expensive Epson cart. When I get the 3880, it comes with a set of inks but pulling the chips off to use on refillables is a very expensive solution.

Anyone know where I can get the chips? They must have been available once as Inkjetmall used to sell them.

Jeff
I just checked my stash of empty 3880 carts and have a spare set of all of the cartridges except Matte Black. Contact me off list if you are interested.

If the carts you have been offered are empty, will the chips work? Although one reads conflicting reports, my understanding is that the printer "disables" the chip when the cart is empty, and that to reuse chips they have to be removed when the cart is still about 10% full.

I am using one PK replacement cart (inkjet mall) and OEM Epson chip with reset chip installed in my 3880 for digital negs. It works fine. There is a caution included in the instructions that ink levels in the replacement carts must be monitored manually.

Taking the chips from empty OEM cartridges has worked for me:

I am using the inkjetmall cartridges in my 3800, gradually switching from OEM inks to Cone Color ink. So far I've switched three cartridges- each time I've used the OEM cartridge until it ran out, and each time the chip worked fine when I transferred it to an inkjetmall cart.
