I need your help to print from 4900 with QTRGui

2015-10-09 by rafaelrojasphoto@...

HI all,

I posted a few days ago my problems when trying to create curves and print with QTRGui and my 4900 printer. Roy very kindly answer me back but I must say I could not figure out exactly what he meant... I have been trying to solve the problems myself but after 4 days, my problems still go on and so far I have not been able to print. So please forgive me to bother you again!

I have understood that QTRgui does not support 10 ink printers. So, I assumed that I could select a 3880 or 4880 model, and then open the curve creator tool. That is what I did, and from there I created the qidf file based on the printed inkcalibration.tiff file and step tablets I had made with the 4990 printer.

Now, what should I do? So far I have tried to save the qidf file in the folder corresponding to the 4990 printer. I did that, but the problem is that when I go to the printing window, choose the 4990 model printer and open the curves tabs to choose the qidf file, I cannot find it there. Not only that, if I go to the physical folder in my PC where the qidf files are, I cannot find it either. So it seems that when I save the curves from the curve creation window, the files do not go to the folder.

Another kind of problem related to this happened when I was using the 3880 printer that I also own. With that printer, I could create a set of qidf profiles that I successfully saved in the corresponding folder of the 3880 and that I could successfully choose from the printing window (curves). So I was thinking about going to the physical folder QTR<profiles<3880 and copy that qidf file to paste it on the 4990 folder. However, I could not find them there, only the canned supplied profiles are visible!

The last problem I have, which seems to me related to the other two, happen when I try to delete a curve. For the 3880 printer, I deleted a number of curves FROM THE CURVE CREATOR TOOL, that is, opening a file, and right clicking on any unwanted profile and then deleting them. That made the profiles disappear from the open menu of the curve creator tool, but , and this is the weird thing, they still are visible as curves available in the printing window - curve setup.

Is anybody out there who can help me? I am quite at a dead end with these problems...

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Rafael

I'm sorry to hear that you spent 4 days on this...

The quad files that are used and selectable in the curves drop down in the QTRqui are stored in a different folder than the .qidf files.

When you click show curve in the curve creation module it will create the .quad file based on those inputs and put it in the folder here: c:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP\QuadTone\quad3880

You will probably need to create a quad4900 folder in the same location as all the quad folders and then rename and drag the .quad file in the quad3880 folder into the new quad4900 folder.

Hope that helps,
Richard Boutwell

Thanks so much Richard for your help!
I still have a problem... I sent you a private message with a capture screen of what I see on my computer. Basically, I open the QuadTone folder but besides the canned profiles, the created ones for the 3880 printer do not appear, even if I have been using them for a while?

I quickly responded to this privately yesterday by email, but wanted to make my answer available to others here as well (and credit to Paul for correcting me about this a few months ago).

I am not a regular Windows user so I forgot about the hidden folder where the quad files are stored in Windows 7+. Then I remembered a post Paul Roark made about this here:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/QuadtoneRIP/conversations/messages/12922

Basically, it says that there is a different set of folders for users application data (for security reasons?)

From Paul's post: "The file path is Win 7 uses a hidden folder. See C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\QuadToneRIP\QuadTone "

If I were a regular Windows user I would make a shortcut to that folder someplace that is easier to get to...

Hope that helps,
Richard Boutwell
