Eboni profiles for R2400

Eboni profiles for R2400

2015-12-02 by Norm Plummer

Getting ready to attempt carbon (Eboni) printing on a R2400. Got the 8-ink pack of Eboni from ink supply.com

I’ve downloaded Paul’s various PDF’s about printing carbon and am studying them. Question: are there any profiles for the Eboni/R2400 combo? Or do I need to adapt a different profile to use...

Any advice (or links to tutorials, etc.) would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for you help.

I never set up a 2400 with a full Eb6. I'd advise just following the 3880 setup at http://paulroark.com/BW-Info/3880-Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf. If you don't use a toner, put the Eb6-Y in there and ignore ignore the "neutral" curves.

The QTR profiles may be close enough to just need relinearization.

I have largely abandoned the Eb6-Y. In my old 7500 that light an ink made a difference, but in a modern printer, the 6% LM is all you need. Putting more fluid on the paper than needed is not really a good idea.

With the original Eb6, the Y ink was more neutral. This is not so with the newer Eboni v. 1.1.

Additionally, with Eb v. 1.1, I've seen 2 instances of issues with the 2% dilution in 1400 printers, at least where generic base 6Cb was used. I think there might be a pH drift at that dilution. That could affect the electrostatic dispersion.

I very much like the option of using or not using the toner. Putting it in the highlights only to some extend replicates and brightened paper look, but with the best pigments, not and OBA dye.

To start, however, just load the Eb6 and print with the epson driver, color controls gamma 2.2. You might be surprised at how nice the images look.
