Curve probleme with 1400 / HanhRagMat / BlackMatNeutralInk

2015-12-07 by oliviergassies@...

Hello,

I am new in this group.

I try to use an Epson 1400 printer to make prints with piezo black ink only. I am looking to try with one ink to render particular and the economy.

I try to creamy first curve for : 1400 / HahnRagMat / BlackMatNeutralInk

I encounter some problems to create the curve.

I can not go through with the establishment of the curve, QTR the following message "Creating curve-K6-1400 HahnPhotoRag-BO

Invalid linearize curve - not Constantly increasing "

Here are the details :

Hardware :

Macbookpro 2011 with mac osx 10.10.2

Epson stylus photo 1400 / Matte Black Ink Neutral No. 1

Probe color Munki Photo

Calibrated screen (100cd brightness)

Steps :

1. Installation of QTR

2. Installation of the driver using "Install1400-K6.command".

3. Printing ink limit of qualibration file using Print-tool ("no color management" in Print-tool, select the printer 1400-K6, then mode "quadtone RIP calibration" and options " Sheet feed, "" 2880dpi "and" bi-directional "I have not selected curves).

4. Definition of the ink limit after 24 hours (result "35")

5. Creating the text file for the curve "HahnPhotoRag-1400-BO" (see at the end of the message)

6. Installation of the curve using "Install1400-K6.command".

7. Print a test pattern of 21 steps using Print-tool ("no color management" in Print-tool, printer selection 1400-K6, then mode "quadtone RIP calibration" and options "Sheet feed "" 2880dpi "and" bi-directional ", with the curve" HahnPhotoRag-1400-BO ").

8. Measure 21 shades exporting data "1400-HahnPhotoRag-BO.csv"

9. Drag/drop "1400-HahnPhotoRag-BO.csv" in QTR-linearized-data ("1400-HahnPhotoRag-BO-out.txt ยป)

10. Copy of the LINEARIZE line in the file "1400-HahnPhotoRag-BO" (see at the end of the message)

11. Installation of the curve using "Install1400-K6.command".

MESSAGE: "Creating curve-K6-1400 HahnPhotoRag-BO

Invalid linearize curve - not Constantly increasing "

Could someone help me?

Thanks !

My reply from this morning is not showing up for some reason, so apologies for it seeming like you are being ignored.

First, welcome. This place has a wealth of information and people are generally quick to respond (as long as Yahoo is cooperating. . .)

Looking quickly at you ink descriptor file it is easy to see what the problem is (even without looking at your measurement graph).

As it is now, your profile essentially printing like the black channel in the ink separation page printed in Calibration mode with the ink limit set to 35. The hardware spits ink onto the paper in direct proportion to the input from the file, but causes the density to increase too quickly for real world photographic uses. That is the essential problem calibrating and profiling is attempting to control.

For the linearization function to be successful you need to be able to print the 21-step target with settings that control the dot gain increase and allow some more separation between each 5% patch.

The easiest way to do that is with the GRAY_HILIGHT= and GRAY-SHADOW= settings.

Even increasing them to the default of 4 (right now they are set to 0) might be enough, but try setting them to 6 for the highlight and 10 for the shadow. You could also increase the GRAY_GAMMA setting to 1.2-1.6 to try to open up the tones the initial 21-step target.

(If my response from earlier today ever shows up you'll see that i just told you to enter some numbers into the GRAY_CURVE= setting. If you do that you will need to leave you setting just as you have them above, and delete the linearize= line.)

Hope that helps,
Richard Boutwell

Good evening Richard,

Thank you for that very comprehensive answer.
In parallel to my question I also did a search on the forum.
I found a lot of interesting discussions and answer helps me a lot.

I've change
GRAY_CURVE= directly without changing other entries. Much more better.
It have to make a new print of the 21-steps for new linearization if I understood.

Olivier
